DACES receive funding from the ESFA to provide courses for Derbyshire residents.  As part of our enrolment process you will be required to show evidence of residency to check your eligibility for funding, as well as for ID checks. 

Adult learners aged 19+ - If you live in a devolved area you can enrol onto our courses online, over the phone or in centre, but full cost fees apply and we will contact you about any additional fees due.  You can check your eligibility for funding online    Learners under 19, or up to 24 with an active an EHC Plan - You can check your eligibility for funding online

Description

This course is for:
This course is for learners who need a GCSE English Language qualification. It may also be appropriate for learners who want to improve their grade. Previous qualifications are not essential, however a Level 2 Functional Skills in English is useful.

You will learn:
You will cover writing, speaking & listening tasks, reading and language analysis. Writing skills will include, writing for purpose and creative writing. The course will feature a mixture of tutor-led activities, individual work, group work and homework. You will participate in regular reading, writing, speaking and listening activities. You will complete two externally assessed exams to achieve your qualification.

Work outside of sessions:
There is an expectation that you will complete work outside of the sessions in your own time. You will be given tasks or activities to complete or practise between taught sessions as homework each week. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session.
You will also be able to use our online learning tool, BKSB, to practise at home on a tablet, laptop or your phone.

Additional costs and what to bring:
If you do not already have a GCSE in English Language grade 4 or above, there are no tuition costs or exam fees for this course.
If you do have a GCSE in English Language grade 4 or above, tuition and exam fees will apply. Ask in centre for details.

Bring along a pen and paper so that you can make your own notes. Handouts will be provided. You will need a folder to keep all your work together and a dictionary may also be useful. You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning.
Commitment and a willingness to take on the challenge and see it through to completion is essential.
