There are some other bits we need to tell you as we get funding from the Government to provide courses for Derbyshire residents.  This often helps to keep costs very reasonable.  In return we follow Government guidance:

  • By enrolling you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions and we may share your details with other education providers. This is likely to depend on the type of course chosen.
  • If you have any problems registering or enrolling online please email adult.education@derbyshire.gov.uk or call us on 01629 531241
  • Each year we'll check your proof of residency in Derbyshire and entitlement to possible funding
  • Adult learners aged over 19 years will generally pay full cost fees unless booking onto a free course.  There may be other costs for materials etc. 
  • Learners under 19, or up to 24 with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) should chat to us or take a look here to check elibility for funding.

Description

"This course is for anyone who would like to build on existing maths skills to gain a GCSE qualification.
You will work on all areas of the AQA GCSE Mathematics (Foundation level) syllabus including number, algebra, geometry, measurement and statistical activities. The course will feature a mixture of tutor-led activities, individual work, group work and homework. You will complete course work tasks and undertake 3 externally assessed foundation level exam papers.
With our GCSE Maths Foundation course, the highest grade that you can achieve is a grade 5.

Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who wants to improve their maths and does not have a Grade 4/C or above at GCSE. No previous qualifications are required, though a Level 2 Functional Skills Maths qualification is highly recommended. The course tutor will assess students in the first weeks of the course to ensure it is at the right level for them.

How will I learn?
The course will be a mixture of tutor-led activities, individual and group work. There will be regular independent assignments and homework will be set every week. The course will follow the GCSE mathematics curriculum at foundation level with AQA examination board and will cover the topics of number, algebra, statistics, measurement, shape, and space. You will also be able to self-assess your progress and achievement. To further support your learning, you will be given access to a student email and a 365 account as well as a login to our online learning platform which will be individually tailored to your needs. You can access these tools at home and use them to reinforce your learning and skills.

What will I need?
You will need a file to organise your work, pen and a large pad of lined A4 paper. If learning online, you will need access to a laptop. There are some laptops available for students to loan. Ask your local centre for more information.
