Adult learners aged over 19 years will generally pay full cost fees unless booking onto a free course. There may be other costs for materials etc.

Learners under 19, or up to 24 with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) should chat to us or take a look here to check elibility for funding.
Please note, we will be unable to take any payments for courses on 25th February 2025, sorry for any inconvenience.

Description
All of our new Tailored Learning courses are matched to one of seven ‘purposes' which have been designed by the Department for Education to recognise the wider benefits of learning.
This course will help you build your confidence with learning.
You will learn how to prepare/adapt fresh wholesome recipes and learn about different ways to reduce food costs. You will be able to develop food preparation and cooking techniques in a supportive friendly environment. Overall, you will develop your knowledge of food and drink choices for a healthier lifestyle and for independent living, considering five ways for well-being. You will be given budgeting tips in each session. The course will include some input from visiting speakers.
Who is this course for?
This course is for adults with learning disabilities to improve their cookery skills for independent living. Our Tailored Learning courses are for people who live in Derbyshire aged 19 and over.
How will I learn?
This is a classroom-based, course of a practical nature. Each week the tutor will demonstrate the recipe to be cooked by yourselves with assistance. Recipes will be provided and step by step method slides. Demonstrations will provide a key part teaching/learning. Your tutor will give you support and feedback, so you know what to do to improve.
What will I need?
You will be asked to provide your own apron for each learner and carer.
You may want to bring something to make notes and you will need a folder and pen.
Bring suitable containers to take food home in and a strong bag.
Sometimes you will be asked to provide an ovenproof dish. Remember dishes can be HOT to carry home.
Are there any other other charges?
There is a charge of £20 for ingredients each five weeks which covers all the dishes and is paid at the time of enrolment. £40 in total is required for the ten-week course.
