DACES

Welcome to a world of learning and courses that could change your life!

Here you can search for something to suit you.  There's lots on offer.  You can use the filter options to narrow things down.  When you've found a course of interest just click on the title to find out more. And why not sign up to our monthly mailing list for our latest news, information and advice?

There are some other bits we need to tell you as we get funding from the Government to provide courses for Derbyshire residents.  This often helps to keep costs very reasonable.  In return we follow Government guidance:

  • By enrolling you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions and we may share your details with other education providers. This is likely to depend on the type of course chosen.
  • Each year we'll check your proof of residency in Derbyshire and entitlement to possible funding
  • Adult learners aged over 19 years will generally pay full cost fees unless booking onto a free course.  There may be other costs for materials etc.
  • Learners under 19, or up to 24 with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) should chat to us or take a look here to check elibility for funding.

If you have any problems registering or enrolling online please email adult.education@derbyshire.gov.uk or call us on 01629 531241

Description

All of our new Tailored Learning courses are matched to one of seven 'purposes' which have been designed by the Department for Education to recognise the wider benefits of learning. This course will help you build your confidence with learning.
In this one of taster session you will learn how to cook a healthier and cheaper version of a Chow Mein from scratch rather than ordering a takeaway. The course will cover adding up the costs of recipes, comparing the cost of home-produced meals versus take away meals. You will gain underpinning knowledge of food safety and the safe use of knives and equipment.

Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you want to try or improve your cookery skills. Our courses are for people who live in Derbyshire aged 19 and over.

How will I learn?
This is a classroom-based course. There will be practical activities with guidance from your tutor. The course will be a mix of tutor-led activities, individual work, paired work and lots of fun. Your tutor will give you support and feedback, so you know what to do to improve. Photographs will be taken of the completed Fakeaways with your permission.

What will I need?
You will require a pair of none slip shoes or covered shoe and a hair bobble for long hair. A container to take food home in. You may want to bring something to make notes. You will need to let the tutor know on the first session if you have any allergens or intolerances.

This course is free and there are no other costs.
