Adult learners aged over 19 years will generally pay full cost fees unless booking onto a free course. There may be other costs for materials etc.

Learners under 19, or up to 24 with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) should chat to us or take a look here to check elibility for funding.

Description
All of our new Tailored Learning courses are matched to one of seven ‘purposes' which have been designed by the Department for Education to recognise the wider benefits of learning. This course will help you build your confidence with learning. You will learn how to prepare/adapt fresh wholesome Spring and Summer lunches and learn about different ways to reduce food costs. You will be able to identify short-, medium- and long-term goals regarding your health and food choice over the course. You will be able to develop food preparation and cooking techniques in a supportive friendly environment. The tutor will raise awareness of food safety and you will improve your own practise. You will be able to develop your own understanding of ingredients, portion sizes, healthy eating and budgeting and improve your knowledge of cooking for sustainability. Overall, you will develop your knowledge of food and drink choices for a healthier lifestyle and for independent living considering five ways for well-being. There will be chance to develop creative skills and technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks within the kitchen with confidence, working alone and as part of a supportive, friendly group. There is opportunity to eat your meal in each session and aim to cook your own lunches in your independent setting.
Who is this course for?
This course is for learners with learning disabilities to improve their cookery skills for independent living. Our courses are for people who live in Derbyshire aged 19 and over.
How will I learn?
This is a classroom-based, course of a practical nature. Each week the tutor will demonstrate the recipe to be cooked by yourselves with assistance. Recipes will be provided. Demonstrations will provide a key part teaching/learning. Your tutor will give you support and feedback, so you know what to do to improve.
