Welcome to a world of learning and courses that could change your life!

Here you can search for something to suit you.  There's lots on offer.  You can use the filter options to narrow things down.  When you've found a course of interest just click on the title to find out more. And why not sign up to our monthly mailing list for our latest news, information and advice?

There are some other bits we need to tell you as we get funding from the Government to provide courses for East Midlands Combined Authority (EMCCA) residences, this includes Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas.  This often helps to keep costs very reasonable.  In return we follow Government guidance:

  • By enrolling you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions and we may share your details with other education providers. This is likely to depend on the type of course chosen.
  • Each year we'll check your proof of residency in Derbyshire and entitlement to possible funding
  • Adult learners aged over 19 years will generally pay full cost fees unless booking onto a free course.  There may be other costs for materials etc.
  • Learners under 19, or up to 24 with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) should chat to us or take a look here to check elibility for funding.

If you have any problems registering or enrolling online please email adult.education@derbyshire.gov.uk or call us on 01629 531241

Description

On this course, you will join a small, friendly group to try volunteering at Cromford Mills. You will help with outdoor jobs like gardening, weeding, watering plants and keeping the mill yard tidy. You may also get the chance to grow your own plants and flowers to sell.
We will show you how to do each task step by step, and you can work at your own pace. Staff and support workers will be there to help you whenever you need it.
This course is a great way to build your confidence, learn new skills, and be part of a team. It's a good next step if you want to do more volunteering or join other activities in the community.

This course is for adults with learning disabilities who want to try volunteering in the community.

On this course, you will learn by doing real volunteering tasks at Cromford Mills. We will show you each job step by step, and you can take your time and work at a pace that feels right for you.
You will learn by:

Watching staff demonstrate what to do
Trying the tasks yourself with support
Working together in a small group
Asking for help whenever you need it
Repeating tasks to build confidence and skills
Practising outdoors in a real working environment

Staff and support workers will always be there to guide you, explain things clearly, and help you stay safe.

For this course, you will need:

Clothes you don't mind getting dirty
A warm or waterproof coat, depending on the weather
Sturdy shoes that are comfortable and safe for walking outside
A packed lunch and a drink, or money to buy food at the café

You do not need any gardening experience — we will show you everything step by step.
If you need special equipment or support, let us know and we will help.
