DACES

Welcome to a world of learning and courses that could change your life!

Here you can search for something to suit you.  There's lots on offer.  You can use the filter options to narrow things down.  When you've found a course of interest just click on the title to find out more. And why not sign up to our monthly mailing list for our latest news, information and advice?

There are some other bits we need to tell you as we get funding from the Government to provide courses for East Midlands Combined Authority (EMCCA) residences, this includes Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas.  This often helps to keep costs very reasonable.  In return we follow Government guidance:

  • By enrolling you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions and we may share your details with other education providers. This is likely to depend on the type of course chosen.
  • Each year we'll check your proof of residency in Derbyshire and entitlement to possible funding
  • Adult learners aged over 19 years will generally pay full cost fees unless booking onto a free course.  There may be other costs for materials etc.
  • Learners under 19, or up to 24 with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) should chat to us or take a look here to check elibility for funding.

If you have any problems registering or enrolling online please email adult.education@derbyshire.gov.uk or call us on 01629 531241

Description

Art is used as a way of transmitting aspects of culture, such as values, customs, history and identity. In this taster session you will learn about Indian textile design and will create your own piece of art inspired by what you learn and see.
You will also be able to develop your art skills whilst working on your well-being – art can be used as part of your self-care practice. This free taster session will give you the opportunity to harness your creativity in a safe and relaxing environment.

Who is this course for?
This session is for you if you are interested in different cultures, are creative and would like to be able to express yourself through art. It is also for those who feel they need to improve their well-being by learning some mindfulness through art expression. Our courses are for people who live in Derbyshire aged 19 and over.

How will I learn?
This is a classroom-based session and will hopefully lead to a six session course over a period of six weeks. The session will introduce you to the links between art and culture and help you to develop, or build on, existing art skills. The tutor will guide you and prompt you with practical activities, explanations, examples and demonstrations. You will work individually but as part of a small group and will be able to continue to work on your project at home. Your tutor will give you support and feedback so you know what to do to improve.

What will I need?
The tutor will supply all resources but you may want to bring some of your own too, if you have them, eg. scissors, paints, brushes, pens, pencils and different patterned papers.

Are there any other costs?

This session is free and there are no other costs.

Following on from this taster session there will hopefully be a six session course on exploring culture through art. This will be tutor led. Your tutor will talk with you about your options at the end of the session.
