There are some other bits we need to tell you as we get funding from the Government to provide courses for East Midlands Combined Authority (EMCCA) residences, this includes Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas. Adult learners aged over 19 years will generally pay full cost fees unless booking onto a free course. There may be other costs for materials etc.

Learners under 19, or up to 24 with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) should chat to us or take a look here to check elibility for funding.

Description
This welcoming six-week course, with 2-hour sessions each week will provide you with the opportunity to learn how to prepare a variety of delicious dishes from scratch while developing practical cooking skills, confidence, and social connections. Through hands-on sessions, learners will explore different international cuisines, using fresh ingredients to create affordable, healthy, and enjoyable meals.
The course is to support not only the development of cooking skills but also social wellbeing and community engagement. Participants will work alongside others in a supportive and inclusive environment, sharing experiences, learning together, and building positive relationships through a shared interest in food. Cooking together can help reduce social isolation, improve confidence, encourage communication, and promote a sense of belonging within the community.
Each session focuses on a different cuisine and introduces a range of cooking techniques, including knife skills, food preparation, dough making, seasoning, sauce preparation, and meal planning. Learners will gain the knowledge and confidence to recreate recipes at home, helping to support healthier lifestyles and greater independence in the kitchen.
Who is this course for?
Beginners and anyone looking to improve their cooking skills, meet new people, and participate in a positive community-based activity.
Adults aged 19 and over who live in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
How will I learn?
This is a classroom-based course. You'll learn through simple, step-by-step demonstrations, hands on practice and supportive guidance from your tutor in a relaxed, friendly setting. You will be given support and feedback from your tutor so you can improve.
What will I need?
All ingredients and equipment are provided. Please bring a suitable container to take your food away with. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting messy.
